- Why do patio slabs crack in Collin County?
- The clay soil here swells when wet and shrinks when dry, which moves anything sitting on it. We compact the base, use rebar rather than mesh and cut control joints so the movement is controlled.
- Do I need a permit for a covered patio or gazebo?
- Attached covers and most roofed structures do, and many cities also require a permit for a slab over a certain size. We pull the permit and schedule the inspections.
- Cedar or steel for a pergola?
- Cedar looks warmer and is easier to match to a house, steel spans farther and needs less upkeep. Both hold up in North Texas when they are finished and flashed correctly.
- How long does a covered patio take?
- Most are done in a few weeks once the permit is approved, with slab curing time and the roof tie-in being the longest stretches.
